The Importance of Building Resilience

Posted on 31/10/2021 Written by Steve Tee

Today I want to share the Power of Resilience with you.

What is Resilience?
According to the American Psychological Association, “psychologists define resilience as the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or significant sources of stress—such as family and relationship problems.”
In short, I define Resilience as the ability to bounce back from setbacks and make a comeback.

Why is building Resilience important?
It is important to build resilience because it gives you both the physical and mental strength to overcome any hardship, setback and adversity you face in your life. Lack of resilience may cause a person to give up easily and have a weaker mindset. They will not be motivated to pursue their goals in life. This may also  lead to some mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.
So, it is important to build resilience as you will be more confident and adaptable when facing any setback or adversity. You will become a stronger and tougher person.

The Steve Tee’s Triple C Model to build Resilience.
I came out with the model and here are the three steps approach that may help you to build resilience.

1. Control your thoughts.
It is normal human nature for us to have negative thoughts when we face a problem and setback. You need to constantly tell yourself to think positively rather than negatively. Remember that the power of words can either pull you back or push you forward in achieving your goals in life.
So keep telling and reminding yourself with some of these phrases;
“I can do it!”
“I can overcome this challenge.”
“Yes, it’s possible.”
“I will make a comeback!”

2. Change your approach.
After you have set your positive thinking mindset, it’s time to focus on the solutions, review what works and what doesn’t.
When things don’t seem to work, change your approach.
Most of the time we have the resistance to change. It’s time to step out of your comfort zone and put all your fear aside.

Example:
If you are running a brick-and-mortar business and are struggling during this covid-19 pandemic, change your business model to either brick-to-order or click-to-order approach.
You own a brick and mortar business such as; F&B, retail and consumer products businesses, you should try bringing your business online during this pandemic and digital era. It may be overwhelming during the initial stage, however, always take it step by step in your new approach.
As the saying goes, “A journey of thousand miles begins with a single step.” So, start taking your first step in your new approach.

3. Continue to persevere
Continue to stay optimistic, focus on the solutions and keep taking steps to overcome your challenges and adversity.
People or even your friends may tell you
“It’s not possible”
“Don’t waste your time.”
“I think you should give up.””I don’t think you will make it.”

Ignore all these comments, keep believing you will overcome the adversity and continue to persevere and make a comeback!

Now, I have faced many struggles, setbacks and adversities in my life, however I didn’t allow them to stop me from chasing my dream and achieving my goals.
Everyone will encounter adversity and challenges in their life, whether it’s in your study, work, business and relationship. Building resilience is like building muscles on your body. So, start building your resilience now.

Steve Tee – “Do not allow disability to disable your abilities.”

Posted on 24/10/2021 Written by Steve Tee

Quotes are a good source of motivation and inspiration. They help to switch on our positivity mindset in order for us to adopt the positive thinking to take positive actions.
This is one of the keys to help achieving your goals.

I came out with my first quote in 2015 during the Asean Para Games.
In 2015, Singapore hosted the SEA Games and the Asean Para Games. This is where I got to know there are sports for people with disabilities. I was introduced to blind football or football 5-a-side.
Back then, I was curious onthis para sport;
How can a blind or visually challenged person be able to play football?
How a blind or visually challenged person is able to dribble the ball and score against the goalkeeper who can see?
These questions piqued my curiosity to go try out the sport. When I played the game, I felt enabled again. I fell in love with the sport. I trained hard and became the captain of the team. Together with the team, we represented Singapore to participate in the Asean Para Games. This is where my sporting journey began.

After the last match, one of the writers asked me if I have any comments, quotes or anything to highlight for the Games. So after some thoughts, I came out with my first ever quote,
“Do not allow your disability to disable your abilities.”

I may have my own disability, that is blindness,
which I do not allow to limit myself from achieving my goals and I do not allow it to stop me from chasing my dreams.
You may have your own disability in another way, example like self limiting beliefs and Fear;
Take fear for example.
Everyone has Fear.
Remember; FEAR = to False Expectation or Evidence Appearing Real.
Do not allow your “disability” of FEAR and other limiting beliefs to limit you from achieving your Greatness!

So, let the Power of Quotes inspire and empower you!

Hello World!

Hi folks,
This is Steve Tee. I’m very happy and excited to set up my personal website.

There are a few more things that need to be done. As I’m a visually challenged person,I’m depending on the text-to-speech software on my laptop to help me navigate and update the website. It is challenging, nevertheless I think it’s possible for a blind or visually challenged person to set up and update a website.
Many of you may think it’s impossible, however it’s possible.
As the saying goes, where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Of course, when it comes to images and graphics, I need some eyes to help me see and arrange them nicely. I am looking around for a kind soul to help me to do that.

At the same time, I will be creating my Facebook page soon too.
It will be a busy period for me.

Have a great day and week ahead!
